British Values

In accordance with the Department of Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure that young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

At our school, we actively promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values help children develop into responsible, respectful and active citizens who are well prepared for life in modern Britain. Teaching British Values supports our wider aim of helping children understand their rights and responsibilities, appreciate diversity, make positive choices and contribute positively to their community.

In practice, British Values are woven throughout school life. Children learn about democracy by sharing their views, voting for class representatives and contributing to school decisions. They develop an understanding of the rule of law through clear rules, expectations and restorative approaches that help everyone feel safe. Individual liberty is encouraged by giving children opportunities to make choices, take on responsibilities and express themselves confidently. Through our curriculum, assemblies and daily interactions, we promote mutual respect and tolerance, celebrating different cultures, backgrounds, faiths and beliefs while helping children understand the importance of kindness, inclusion and treating others with respect. These values underpin our school community and support our vision of preparing every child to thrive in an ever-changing world.
